Yeah right I hear you say.... which is what I used to say, here's my story.
16 Years ago my wife left me and my 1 year old son and my life crumbled, I had no choice but to give up work and become a stay at home dad because the resources available to single parent fathers was non existent. A man raising a child in a woman's world was hard work but also very rewarding as I learnt a great deal from a few very kind single mums who took me under there warm wings and showed me the parenting ropes. Life at that time was very hard financially, my only source of income was a state benefit called Income Support which was pittance but my rent was paid and had a roof over my head. I quickly learnt the art of budgeting, living within my means and before I knew it four whole years had passed, my son was able to start school and work was an option I could not resist. Within days of my son's first day of school I had found work in a petrol station and secured a local child minder, “yeah! back to work and no more struggling” Which was true family credit had become available so I had a top-up on my wage which was great and for two years I lived well but nothing lasts, my employers went bankrupt and I found my self looking for work again and again, over a seven year period I worked as a shop assistant a dray man delivering real ales, a Warehouse Assistant an Order Picker and finally as a Support Worker enabling individuals with learning difficulties to become independent within the local community which was indeed a very rewarding job but also stressful and unsociable, after working three years as a support worker I broke down and was found by a friend in a local pub with no recollection of who I was and why I was sitting supping ale when I should have been working.
I had a Mental Break down due to stress and isolation and spent a year under a doctor trying to understand what had happened. When I finally recovered I found myself alone and jobless, my son had moved in with his mother for a year, life was a mess but things started to lookup my son moved back home with me and I was determined to make something of my life I was 40 and had no intention of working for anyone else, I wanted to work for me, I wanted to enjoy life, enjoy the friends that had stood by me through all the rough times but more than anything I wanted to have Money so that I could be there for my son when he needed help and support, he was my rock and I should be his.
Rock bottom and the only way to go was up, however this time I was determined to stay up. I searched the internet for work at home jobs but became distracted by the internet itself an amazing resource of just about everything and quickly became immersed in a world where anything was possible. Within 6 months I built my first website about lone parenting hahaha what a laugh I was becoming more and more confident, I even taught my self the basics of web design, I was meeting people and networking but the money was getting tighter and tighter my budgeting skills could no longer cope so It was back to my original plan “seek out work at home jobs” and that's just what I did day and night searching for the best way to make money online. I visited site after site, read article after article and then it hit me Affiliate Marketing, umm I had signed up earlier as an affiliate to advertise a few products on the lone parent site with a few banners here and there and earned enough to pay my hosting fees which was great but I wanted to earn enough to take me and the lad on holiday, pay the bills and still have enough to enjoy when I wanted. I looked at articles spouting words like Niche markets (wtf) and the deeper I got the more I became interested in the marketing world but no one was showing me how, that is until I read an ebook that cost me next to nothing, it changed my world opened my eyes and I did it all on an extremely tight budget and no knowledge of the Marketing world.
I followed the step by step instructions I learned how to spot a potential niche and develop it to produce recurring sales, how to use things like keywords and search engine optimisation (SEO), back links, email marketing and lots more. I actioned this guys ideas and teachings (pure genius) and I now earn more a week for a few hours than I did full time and have thrown my budgeting skills to the wall. If your fortunate enough to find a good guide with step by step instructions and a wealth of talent willing to give good advice, then you are half way to finding enough money to live on, the other half is all down to you, My advice is make a good plan of Action, do at least 3-4 hours work each day actively promoting your site/networking, writing articles etc and if you can stick to that you will at least reap the rewards within a few months, you won't get rich but can be enough to live off. The more you put in the more you get out
My life has changed, I am free, I decide what time I work, I have fun when I want it, I'm here for my lad and I am in complete control of my life.
